## What makes a great 9mm suppressor?
A 9mm suppressor sits at the intersection of portability and performance. Unlike rifle cans, pistol suppressors deal with slower, denser gas — which means you can achieve excellent dB reduction in a compact, lightweight package.
Key specs to compare
When evaluating 9mm cans, prioritise these specs in order:
dB reduction
The headline number. Most quality 9mm suppressors land between 28–34 dB of reduction with standard 9mm ammunition. Anything above 32 dB is exceptional. With subsonic loads, expect an additional 3–5 dB.
Weight
Pistol suppressors are mounted to the muzzle and affect your sight picture, recoil impulse, and holster fitment. Every ounce matters. Sub-5 oz is the sweet spot for carry or duty use. Target shooters can afford to go heavier for the extra suppression.
Mount type
Direct-thread mounts are simple and reliable — a good choice for dedicated suppressor hosts. Quick-detach (QD) mounts add weight but let you move the can between hosts quickly. Piston kits are available for most cans and reduce blowback on unlocked-breech pistols.
